    Trip Itinerary

    Day 1: Jomo Kenyatta Airport - Samburu Game Reserve

    Arrive at the Jomo Kenyatta Airport and drive north to Samburu Game Reserve with a stopover at Trout Tree Restaurant in Nanyuki for lunch, later continue driving to Samburu Game Reserve, have a short Game drive en route to Ashnil Samburu Camp for a late afternoon check in. Dinner and Overnight at the Camp.

    Samburu is a name of Masai origin ‘Samburr’ being a traditional leather bag for carrying honey and milk. The region is characterized by vast, open landscapes, dried riverbeds (depending on the season of the year) and red volcanic soil. Rock outcroppings contrast against the dense woodland vegetation along the banks of Ewaso Nyiro meaning ‘River of brown water’, the river that gives life to the reserve.

    The area is home to the famous Samburu people who are closely related to the Masai in the South. Both have retained their old cultural tradition and have defied passage of time and civilization.

    Day 2: Samburu Game Reserve

    Day spent searching for the Samburu five and observing the vast unspoiled scenery during morning and afternoon game drive.

    Samburu is renowned for its rare species of fauna known as the ‘Samburu five’. These five particular animals are usually only found north of the equator – the long-necked gerenuk, the reticulated giraffe which is characterized by its liver-colored geometric patches defined bynnarrow white lines, the Grevy’s zebra which is bigger than the common zebra and looks more like a horse, the Beisa oryx with black horizontal stripe running across its lower flank and the Somali ostrich males which have blue-grey necks and thighs.

    Day 3: Lake Naivasha

    After Breakfast, depart and drive South to Lake Naivasha (320kms), stopping at the 75meter Thomson’s falls for lunch. You will arrive at to Lake Naivasha Sopa arriving for a late afternoon check in after which and you can enjoy the afternoon at leisure.

    Dinner and Overnight at the resort.

    Day 4: Lake Naivasha - Lake Nakuru National Park

    After an early breakfast, depart carrying your picnic lunch and drive to lake Nakuru National Park for a full day game drive and enjoying the beautiful sceneries, vast vegetation and wild mammals in the park.

    On the floor of the Great Rift Valley, surrounded by wooded and bushy grassland, lies the beautiful Lake Nakuru National Park. You will enjoy the wide ecological diversity and varied habitats that range from Lake Nakuru itself to the surrounding escarpment. It is ideal for bird watching, hiking, picnic and game drives. It also offers sanctuary to huge numbers of native African animals including waterbucks, warthogs, impalas, buffalo, Rothschild giraffes, elands, endangered black rhinos, white rhinos and, occasionally, leopards. Return back to the resort in the late afternoon for dinner and Overnight at Lake Naivasha Sopa.

    Day 5: Maasai Mara National Reserve

    After Breakfast, enjoy a 1hr boat ride on Lake Naivasha coming close to big groups of Hippo. Lake Naivasha is our highest fresh water lake in Kenya at 1900mts above sea level. After the boat ride,
    you will also enjoy a walk viewing the beautiful scenery then later continue driving south towards Maasai Mara having your lunch box on the way. You will arrive at Mara Fig Tree Camp in the late
    afternoon.

    Day 6: Maasai Mara National Reserve

    Day is spent in the Reserve; Kenya’s most popular game sanctuary with Game drives to suite your wishes. One can opt for a much recommended and very popular Hot Air balloon Safari experience that is followed by a full breakfast served on the open savannah accompanied by a bottle of Champagne at an extra cost.You will hunt for big game to be shot only through your camera lenses. Always looking out for the elusive “Big Five” i.e. Lion, Elephant, Buffalo, and the extremely rare and shy Black rhino and Leopard. Mara is also home to over 350 species of birds. It is also the home of the famed Masai people, a unique and popular tribe due to their long-preserved culture. Despite education, civilization and western cultural influences, the Maasai people have clung to their traditional way of life, making them a symbol of Kenyan culture. Optional visit at an extra cost to a Masai village reveals the singing and dancing that are part of their daily lives and sacred rituals. A glimpse into their homes and social structure is a poignant experience.

    All meals and overnight at the camp.

     

    Day 7: Nairobi.

    Depart after breakfast depart for Nairobi arriving in time for lunch at Karen Blixen Coffee Gardens.

    Later you will be transferred to the airport for your onward flight back home.
